Luna's inaugural print exhibition, in collaboration with Centrala, Care and Defiance, takes place at Centrala, Birmingham from 1-27 May 2026. Opening on Friday 1 May, 5pm onwards as part of Digbeth First Friday.
Eleven artists have been selected from our Open Call to feature a body of work in the exhibition alongside 2 national female photography collectives, POST Photo Collective and UK Black Female Photographers.
The exhibition will also look back at Birmingham's rich photographic history, bringing together a curated selection of the archive of three prominent female photographers for the first time; Rhonda Wilson, and the partnership of Lisel Haas and Grete Bermbach. Luna have worked in partnership with Annette Naudin to showcase Rhonda Wilsons 'Worth Paying For' project, and a selection of the Lisel Haas and Grete Bermbach Archive has been made possible to display through partnership with Bertz Associates.
The exhibition will also feature a curated salon hang of all entrants work from the Open Call, serving its current community.
The first exhibition of its kind, Care & Defiance creates a conversation rooted between Birmingham's past and present photographers, in amongst a national outlook of the contemporary female gaze.
Womanhood means holding multiple things in balance, switching roles, being both tender and tough. In this open call we want to see work that encompasses the contemporary female gaze in all its forms.
We invite photography that represents not only how you experience the world as it is today but that gives us a glimpse into how it might be tomorrow. Revolutions whispered quietly. Moments of resistance shouted out loud. Love and rage and everything in between.
Join us on the opening night to celebrate, Friday 1st May, 5pm onwards as part of Digbeth First Friday.
